"Wine Tour with a Difference", Sunday December 5, 2010

Details

When: Sunday 5th December, 2010 - 9.30am

Where: Sonoma Wineries, starting in Sebastopol

Christmas came early this year for a group of 16 University of Birmingham Alumni and their companions. On December 5 they toured 4 boutique wineries in Sonoma County&s wine region in a luxury coach. Birmingham Alumnus James Stamp Ph.D is a consultant viticulturist who lives in Sebastopol and he very kindly organized the event. The group visited the Benovia Winer and Martinelli Wineries in Santa Rosa and then stopped for lunch at the Lambert Bridge Winery in Healdsburg. The final stop was at Lancaster Estate Winery outside Healdsburg. Along the way the intricacies of the wine making process were explained. The 3 chemical engineers on the trip were thrilled to get re-acquainted with batch reactors and fermentation kinetics.

At each stop five or six different wines were tasted, several in the $90 to $100 a bottle range. These are not wines that you find on the shelves at your local Safeway or Trader Joes or in Gunbarrels. Some of the Wineries only sell to members of their wine club or by direct sales.
